History and Art

An adventure from the heart

“In 1992, we began restoring this 18th-century architectural gem, completing the work in 1996. Every decision respected the essence of the Casa de Ponte, a historic building that demanded the preservation of its sober elegance and unique legacy. Our goal was always to honor its past while giving it a new life.”

A meeting with destiny

“It was destiny that led us to cross the threshold of this house in 1990. The short walk to its staircase was enough to feel that, although time had left its mark on the walls, its history remained intact. At that moment, an immense peace took hold of us and convinced us that this place had a special purpose in our lives.”

Tradition and innovation

This stately house, a symbol of Garachico’s history, serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation. Its restoration, carried out with great care, combines the serenity of its original architecture with a contemporary aesthetic. The Boutique Hotel San Roque offers guests a glimpse into the past in perfect harmony with the present.

A tribute to art and design

At the Boutique Hotel San Roque, art is not just a detail—it is the soul of every space. From the “chasnera” stone that graces the courtyard floor to the works of Miquel Navarro, Carmen Calvo, and José Noguero, every corner breathes creativity and tradition. The avant-garde aesthetic of the Bauhaus intertwines with unique pieces by Canarian and national artists, creating a unique dialogue between history and modernity.

Susy Gómez – “San Roque”

As soon as you enter the reception, Susy Gómez’s “San Roque” invites you to open your mind to the future. This dialogue between past and present defines the essence of the Boutique Hotel San Roque, giving it a unique personality.

A groundbreaking artist, Susy Gómez gained recognition with her installation at the Joan Miró Space in the 90s and represents Spain with permanent works, such as the one at the European Council in Brussels.

José Noguero – “El niño durmiente”

On the staircase leading to the rooms, José Noguero’s “El niño durmiente” balances the strength of Carmen Calvo’s installation.

This endearing and delicate sculpture reflects the mastery of an artist who started as a cabinetmaker and now exhibits in museums such as the Reina Sofía and the CAC Málaga, making him a leading figure in European contemporary art.

Carmen Calvo – “The Death of a Star is an Eye”

Covering the ceiling of the staircase leading to the rooms, Carmen Calvo’s installation “The Death of a Star is an Eye” impresses with its power, contrasting with the fragility of José Noguero’s sculpture.

Winner of the National Plastic Arts Award in 2013, Carmen Calvo is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Spanish art.

Miquel Navarro – “La Centinela”

Overlooking the hotel’s main courtyard, Miquel Navarro’s installation “La Centinela” combines modern design with the tradition of Canarian classicism.

This aluminum fountain-sculpture is an imposing piece that reflects the vision of an artist who is a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, with large-format works recognized internationally.

Canarian art in every corner

The Boutique Hotel San Roque celebrates the cultural richness of the Canary Islands through the works of renowned local artists.

From the hallways to the rooms, names such as Ildefonso Aguilar, Cristina Gámez, Emilia Martín Fierro, Manolo Cruz, Gonzalo González, Lola del Castillo, Lecuona & Hernández, and Miguel Ángel Pascual fill each space with creativity and authenticity, giving the hotel a distinctive character.
